Which industry did you provide the service for?

Mindbowser focuses on Product Engineering and Digitalization with Design Thinking, Clean Code, DevSecops & Quality Automation

What are the general observations/ issues of this sector?
High computational demands in Mobility, Data Science, Cloud, IoT, Blockchain, and ML solutions contribute significantly to GHG emissions, especially when powered by non-renewable energy. Practices like DevSecOps and Clean Code can mitigate some impact, but resource-intensive technologies and frequent deployments often increase energy consumption. Integrating sustainability into these practices, such as optimizing code and using renewable energy, is crucial for reducing the carbon footprint. Emission from the Digitalization and Product Engineering sector continue to rise in India and across the globe.

Digital technologies are directly responsible for around 2% of energy-related GHG emissions today. In addition to indirect effects on emissions in other sectors, digital technologies also have direct effects on energy use and emissions. The data centres, data transmission networks and connected devices that underpin digitalisation accounted for around 330 Mt CO2 equivalent in 2020 (including embodied emissions), equivalent to 0.9% of energy-related GHG emissions. Since 2010, emissions have grown modestly despite rapidly growing demand for digital services, thanks to energy efficiency improvements, renewable energy purchases by information and communications technology (ICT) companies and broader decarbonisation of electricity grids in many regions. However, to get on track with the Net Zero Emissions by 2050 (NZE) Scenario, emissions must halve by 2030.

The digitalization and product engineering sectors face significant challenges, including high energy consumption from data centres and the production of electronic devices. Rapid technological advancements lead to increased electronic waste and resource extraction issues. Additionally, the carbon emissions from manufacturing and transportation contribute to the sectors’ environmental impact, highlighting the need for sustainable practices and solutions.

1. Svida has now access to most accurate and verified GHG Emission reports (Scope 1)

2. Svida’s IT team is integrating TerraBlu API for emission assessment and will be launching the new features soon. Post this integration, each passenger shall get the amount of emission caused by their ride and option to offset that emission in the required quantity.

What were their problems?

Mindbowser faces challenges in reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and enhancing sustainability despite its strong commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions. While their expertise in areas such as Design Thinking and DevSecOps drives significant business growth and operational excellence, the company needs to address its environmental impact. This involves implementing effective strategies to lower emissions across their operations, including digital solutions and product development, while aligning with their commitment to high-quality and innovative client services.

How did you proceed?

Mindbowser approached TerraBlu to enquire about the following:

  • The capability to assess greenhouse gas emissions for Mindbowser and generate GHG Protocol-based emission reports.

  • Providing recommendations to Mindbowser on strategies to minimize or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

  • <span “=””>Supporting Mindbowser in offsetting residual greenhouse gas emissions

    (1 carbon credit = 1000 kg of emission avoided/reduced)
What research did you undertake?

TerraBlu analyzed the following:

1. Emission Assessment: Conducted a thorough analysis of Mindbowser’s greenhouse gas emissions, including direct and indirect operational activities, to accurately quantify Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

2. Benchmarking: Compared Mindbowser’s emission levels against industry standards and best practices to establish a baseline for sustainability goals.

3. Carbon Credit Options: Evaluated available carbon credit programs to recommend suitable options for offsetting Mindbowser’s emissions, including the quantity and type of credits needed.

4. Renewable Energy Solutions: Investigated potential renewable energy investments and strategies to further reduce emissions beyond carbon offsetting.

5. Sustainability Strategies: Researched and provided best practices for integrating sustainability initiatives into Mindbowser’s business operations and enhancing their market positioning with carbon-neutral offerings.

What were the findings?
  1. TerraBlu assisted Mindbowser in assessing and quantifying its greenhouse gas emissions, which totaled 22.984 metric tons of CO2 equivalent from Scope 2.
  2. Mindbowser reported no Scope 1 emissions for reporting period FY23-24.
  3. The company reduced its carbon footprint by purchasing and retiring carbon credits from TerraBlu.
  4. The company enhanced its market position by offering carbon-neutral products and services.
  5. Ongoing monitoring and strategic partnerships supported Mindbowser’s sustainability goals and environmental responsibility for FY 23-24.
How did you assess?

TerraBlu’s project team analyzed Mindbowser’s data with help from TerraBlu’s GreenWise SaaS.

What did you implement?

TerraBlu’s project team utilized the GreenWise SaaS to upload the data provided by Mindbowser, calculate the emissions according to the specified requirements, and generate detailed emission reports for Mindbowser.

What solutions did you provide?
  1. TerraBlu’s GreenWise SaaS calculated emissions from Mindbowser’s electricity consumption.
  2. Standard GHG Scope 2 and other emission reports were generated for Mindbowser for the assessment period.
  3. The reports were verified by sustainability experts.
How did it impact through a broad level?

At a broad level, the impact included:

  • Enhanced Environmental Responsibility: Mindbowser demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental stewardship by accurately assessing and addressing its greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Achieving Carbon Neutrality: The company successfully achieved carbon neutrality for the assessment period through effective carbon offsetting and renewable energy investments.
